No matter the occasion
Every occasion is a good one for barbecuing: whether it’s a beautiful day outside, it’s the weekend, you just got a promotion, the in-laws are coming down for dinner, the guys want to drink a new microbrew beer, you name it!
A barbecue is the perfect opportunity to hang out in your backyard or on your terrace and enjoy the nice weather and delicious grilled food.
(Barbecues are one of the reasons we launched the Renard online butcher shop. I love to barbecue. I put mine by the patio door in the winter so I can use it at -40 degrees...)
A perfect barbecue is made up of a few essential elements: family, friends, nice weather, but above all, good BBQ meat and food to grill.
Here is an appetizing list of meats to grill for a highly successful barbecue meal.
Ground meat burger
The ultimate classic for a successful barbecue with friends is the burger! It’s easy: just cook the meat evenly, grill a few buns, and let your guests dress their burger with the condiments they prefer.
Garnishes can include lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mayo, mustard, relish, coleslaw, onions, and the list goes on. Some might want to add beets and brie, and we’re not against that!
As long as the meat is good, the burger will be delicious!
Tournedos on the grill!
Here is how to best cook tournedos on the BBQ:
1. Marinate the tournedos in a sweet and spicy teriyaki sauce, or a tried and true BBQ hot sauce.
2. Open a beer.
3. Cook vegetables in foil: shallots, potatoes, carrots and asparagus.
4. Grill tournedos for 6 to 8 minutes on each side.
5. Enjoy: the end result will be delicious!
Pork is a must
Pork may not be the most popular meat on the BBQ, but it’s still a hit when cooked on the grill in a good barbecue marinade. Whether it’s ribs, pork chops, pork tenderloin, or some nice slices of bacon, there’s sure to be a happy crowd around when this protein is cooked right.
BBQ chicken is a classic!
Chicken is so universally beloved that it can be prepared in almost any sauce and make most people happy. Grill some chicken breasts steeped in a BBQ chicken marinade or simply season them to make a delicious chicken burger.
You can also make chicken thighs, which go great with potatoes and brown BBQ sauce.
And to impress your guests, try a beer chicken on the BBQ, a summer classic!
Grill and skewer
A treat that’s always tasty and easy to prepare is a grilled skewer. Just take a metal or wooden skewer, add a few cubes of beef or chicken, some large vegetables (onions, peppers and why not add some pineapple pieces?), brush the whole thing with a sauce and grill it on the BBQ. Chicken and beef are the best meats to grill on the BBQ. Since the vegetables are already on the skewers, there is no need to grill any extra.
Wow your guests with a Tomahawk steak
It’s time to bring out the chef in you as well as your best serving board. This is your chance to impress your guests with a course that’s sure to get people talking: a Tomahawk steak!
First, prepare a dry marinade using all your favourite spices. Brush the meat with the mix and let rest for 45 to 60 minutes before putting it on the grill. Once cooked to the desired doneness, serve it on a wooden board with a few vegetables or condiments, such as sauce or mustard. Serve it in slices and give the bone a place of honour.
It’s the perfect cut to share with friends!
