This is fitting, because we love beef and we have many recipes that incorporate many different cuts of beef. Whether you’re looking to make beef stroganoff, braised beef, slow cooker beef, roast beef or beef stew, we have a special recipe just for you.
Without further ado, here are our top 5 beef recipes.
Beef stroganoff: a recipe that’s both classic and delicious!
• Prep time: 20 minutes
• Cooking time: 50 minutes
• Serving size: 4 servings
Ingredients
• 1 lb beef, cut into strips
• 4 tbsp butter
• 1 large onion, chopped
• 2 packages (227 g each) mushrooms, sliced
• ¾ cup white wine
• 3 cups beef broth
• 1 cup sour cream
• 1 can (284 mL) cream of mushroom soup
• 2 tbsp tomato paste
• 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
• Pinch of paprika
• Salt and pepper
• All-purpose flour
• Egg noodles, to serve
Preparation
1. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large pot over medium heat, then sauté onion and mushrooms for 5 minutes. Set aside on a plate.
2. Season beef strips and toss in flour.
3. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in the same pot over high heat and sear the beef strips. Set aside on another plate.
4. Deglaze the pot with the white wine, then add the beef broth, sour cream, cream of mushroom soup, tomato paste and Dijon mustard.
5. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.
6. Add beef strips, onion and mushrooms and continue cooking for 15 to 20 minutes.
7. Sprinkle with paprika and serve with egg noodles.
Beef and carrot stew
Ingredients
• 2 tbsp olive oil or more for cooking
• 2 pounds stewing beef cubes
• 2 tbsp butter
• 1 can of beef broth (900 mL)
• 8 carrots, cut into 1 inch pieces
• 3 tbsp flour
• 2 tbsp tomato paste
• 1 tbsp old-fashioned Dijon mustard
• 1 cup of red wine
• 1 large onion, finely chopped
• 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
• 1 tbsp finely chopped fresh rosemary
• 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves
• Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
1. Place rack in the centre of the oven and preheat to 350°F.
2. Brown beef cubes on each side in a pan with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper and transfer meat to a plate.
3. In the same pan, add butter and onion for about 3 minutes. Add garlic and continue cooking for 1 minute. Sprinkle with flour and stir until flour becomes moist.
4. Deglaze with red wine, add tomato paste, Dijon mustard, rosemary and thyme, and mix well before adding beef cubes and beef broth.
5. Bake for 2.5 hours and then add the carrots. Continue cooking for about 30 to 45 minutes or until carrots and meat are tender. Stir a few times during cooking.
6. Add salt and pepper if required.
Sweet beef meatballs
• Prep time: 30 minutes
• Cooking time: 80 minutes
• Serving size: 4 servings
Ingredients
• 1 lb ground beef
• 1 onion, chopped
• 1/2 cup oat flour
• 1 egg
• Garlic to taste
• Salt to taste
• Pepper to taste
Sauce
• 1 cup ketchup
• 1 cup water
• 1/2 cup brown sugar
• 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
• 2 tbsp soy sauce
Preparation
1. Mix all the ingredients for the meatballs.
2. Shape into small balls and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
3. Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 40 minutes, turning occasionally during baking to ensure even cooking.
4. Prepare sauce by mixing all ingredients in a saucepan. As soon as it reaches boiling point and bubbles appear in the sauce, remove the pan from the heat.
5. Remove the meatballs from the oven after 35 minutes of cooking and place them in a hollow ovenproof pot. Pour the sauce on top and place back in the oven for 40 minutes, uncovered.
Easy ground beef recipe: beef and sweet potato stir-fry
• Prep time: 15 minutes
• Cooking time: 11 minutes
• Serving size: 4 servings
Ingredients
• 450 g (1 lb) medium-lean ground beef
• 500 mL (2 cups) chopped sweet potatoes
• 2 zucchinis cut in half slices
• 125 mL (1/2 cup) tomato sauce with fine herbs
• 1 onion, chopped
• 60 mL (1/4 cup) beef broth
Preparation
1. Heat a little olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook ground beef and onion for 5 to 7 minutes.
2. Add sweet potatoes and beef broth. Cook for 5 to 10 minutes, until sweet potatoes are tender.
3. Add zucchini and tomato sauce. Continue cooking for 1 minute, while stirring.
4. Season with salt and pepper.
5. Serve on a bed of rice.

• Preparation time: 10 minutes
• Cooking time: 70 minutes
• Serving size: 8 servings
Ingredients
• 1 kg (2.2 lbs) roast beef
• 1 tbsp freshly ground black pepper
• 2 tbsp vegetable oil
• 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
• ½ cup VH® Honey & Garlic cooking sauce
• 3 cups beef stock
• 4 medium carrots, sliced
• 8 baby potatoes, chopped
• 1 medium rutabaga, cut into 2 cm (¾ inch) slices or cubes
• Salt to taste
Preparation
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Season roast on all sides with pepper.
3. In a large thick-bottomed pan, heat oil over medium heat. Brown all surfaces of roast thoroughly. Remove roast and set aside.
4. Add flour to pan; stir for 1 minute. Add in VH® Honey & Garlic cooking sauce.
5. Return roast to pan. Pour beef stock over roast.
6. Bake, uncovered, in centre of preheated oven, basting often during cooking, for 20 minutes.
7. After 20 minutes, arrange vegetables around roast. Continue cooking for approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
